Carbon Compliance Estimator
Estimate your business's Scope 1, 2, & 3 footprint.
This tool provides an estimate of your carbon footprint based on the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, which categorizes emissions into three 'scopes'.
Scope 1 & 2: Direct & Indirect Emissions
Our 'Activity-Based' calculation helps estimate your Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Scope 1 covers direct emissions from sources you own or control (e.g., burning diesel in company vehicles). Scope 2 covers indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity. We use emission factors from sources like the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to convert your activity data (like kWh of electricity or gallons of diesel) into tonnes of CO2 equivalent (CO2e).
Scope 3: Supply Chain Emissions
Our 'Spend-Based' calculation provides a high-level estimate of your Scope 3 emissions, which include all other indirect emissions that occur in your value chain (e.g., purchased goods and services). This is the hardest category to track. We use illustrative, industry-average emission factors for dollars spent in categories like cloud computing. For precise Scope 3 accounting, we recommend using a dedicated platform.
The emission factors used in this calculator are for estimation purposes. For reporting-grade data, we recommend sourcing factors from an API like Climatiq, which provides region-specific and up-to-date information.
Case Studies
Case Study 1: Digital Agency
A 20-person remote agency uses 50,000 kWh of electricity for its operations and has a $50,000 annual cloud spend.
Footprint: ~26.25 tonnes CO2e
Case Study 2: Local Bakery
A bakery uses 100,000 kWh of electricity for ovens and 500 gallons of diesel for deliveries, plus $20,000 in other procurement.
Footprint: ~54.59 tonnes CO2e
Case Study 3: Small Logistics Co.
A logistics company with a small fleet of trucks uses 20,000 gallons of diesel annually and has $100,000 in procurement spend.
Footprint: ~213.6 tonnes CO2e
