Subscription Leak Detector
Find "zombie" subscriptions in your bank statement.
This tool is designed with a "privacy-first" approach. Understanding how it works is key to trusting it with your financial data.
1. 100% Client-Side Processing
When you upload your CSV file, it is not sent to our server. The entire process—parsing the file, analyzing transactions, and displaying the results—happens locally in your web browser. We use the popular PapaParse library to handle the CSV file directly on your machine. Your financial data never leaves your computer, guaranteeing your privacy.
2. Keyword-Based Detection
The tool identifies potential subscriptions by scanning the "Description" column of your transaction history for a predefined list of keywords (e.g., 'netflix', 'spotify', 'adobe'). If a keyword is found in a transaction, the tool flags it.
To distinguish between one-off purchases and recurring subscriptions, our logic assumes that if a keyword appears more than once in your statement, it's likely a monthly or recurring charge. We then average the amounts for that keyword to estimate the monthly cost. This is a heuristic method and may not be perfect, but it's effective for catching most "zombie" subscriptions.
This manual-style check is safer than automated tools that require you to link your bank accounts via API, which can pose a security risk. While services like Rocket Money (which we recommend) are reputable, our tool provides a no-risk first step for users who prefer not to grant third-party account access.
